A demolition application has been submitted for the former First Hungarian Presbyterian Church at 439 Vaughan Road, which is about 5 blocks south/east of Oakwood.

The letter attached in the application document indicates they're planning to build low-rise detached and semi-detached housing, which is expected to start in Spring 2021.

Sorry to see the church structure go, it could have made for interesting lofts, or some other kind of re-use. Not easy to do though, it's just too bad that a bulldozer will be let loose here.

Yeah, it's quite a cute church structure. Although some challenges I can conceptualize. With the relatively smaller building dimensions, they'd ideally need an addition to fit in more units to make the numbers work. But most of the currently buildable space is on the periphery surrounding the site, with the church being recessed from the curb. Maybe they could've done an additional on the west side of the site, or go all out and do a facade move outward to the edge of the site, but that wouldn't be easy. Perhaps the ambition or resources aren't there, especially if it's for a smaller developer.
