St Lawrence Market

This is a VERY sad day for the St Lawrence neighbourhood and anyone who values heritage. The LPAT has, in essence, eviscerated the Heritage Conservation District Plan.

Here is the Order:

ORDER
[56] The Tribunal therefore allows the appeal in part against By-law No. 1328-2015 of the City of Toronto and pursuant to s. 41(7) of the Ontario Heritage Act, the Tribunal directs the municipality to amend the by-law in the following manner:
(1) Revise the boundaries of the HCD Plan to capture the 10 original blocks, to the District, together with the portions of the civic reserve lands that speak to the original intended use of these lands, such that the westerly boundary is formed by the easterly limits of Victoria Street to the west, Berkley Street to the east, Adelaide Street to the north, and the Esplanade to the south from Scott Street extending along the Esplanade to Jarvis Street and then continuing along Front Street to Berkley Street;
(2) Delete section 3.4 dealing with Character Sub-Areas;
(3) Delete policies prescribing step backs, street wall heights and angular planes in 5.1.5, 5.1.6, 5.1.7, 5.1.17, 5.17.4, and 5.15.5; together with all associated mapping and illustrations
(4) Revise the mandatory and directive language of the guidelines to more appropriately reflect suggested direction in the guidelines;
(5) Revise the Transition policies in Appendix D to the By-law to capture the revised list of properties to which transition shall apply when the Final Order issues;
(6) Revise Objective 5 to clarify the reference to street wall height, as opposed to traditional height;
(7) Revise Section 4 - Implementation to guide the understanding as to which
policies are mandatory as opposed to non-mandatory;
(8) Revise all policies having to do with signage to be guidelines as opposed to mandatory policies;
(9) Revise the Statement of Cultural Heritage Value and Interest to include and reflect the contribution of the Fourth Period of Significance to the District.

The full Decision is not yet posted on the LPAT site. The actual Plan as proposed is at: http://app.toronto.ca/tmmis/viewAgendaItemHistory.do?item=2015.TE12.11

@DSC do you know what’s going on here?

Will they bother rebuilding the streetcar track, now that the long-term plans are to extend 503 to Dufferin Loop, with no plans for any service south of King Street downtown?
No, it's not a good point. Though I like streetcars they do have the disadvantage that detours need to be on rails and Church/Wellington/York is primarily a detour route. They already rebuilt the track on York and on Wellington from York to Yonge - all that is being done in 2021 is the block of Wellington from Yonge to Church and the short section on Church up to the (already renewed) special trackwork at King.

No, it's not a good point.
It was a question, not a point. As far as I know, the previous work was done before TTC announced long-term plans to permanently discontinue regular service on Wellington.

Though there might well be benefit to have it remain available for detours, etc.

Mila's Shoes on Front is having a "Closing Sale". They had (another) flood from above a few weeks ago and that may have pushed them off the cliff.
Maybe another pot shop can go into that space - there are only going to be two on that block so far.

I just read through the relevant documents. Does anyone know when, if not already, the full decision will be made public?
