The end result of the exterior skin is so impressive, a great example of excellent window wall planning. I just wish they would install fins to hide some of the standard rooftop mechanical equipment. I know the average person will never see this, and it is not cost efficient, but it would make for a much slicker looking building from a distance (something most buildings could benefit from).

Aura was great on paper. It's had all the potential in the world, it just stumbled and crashed before the finish line. The execution is painful in some places, and the underground is one of the worst urban experiences ever presented. Sometimes the initial promise of its greatness shines through, like in Razz's photos, but up close it's just a mess. Two banks on Yonge Street when there are three retuarants on Gerard is insulting to the public realm, especially since they expanded the sidewalk on Yonge.
It's like the A+ student who failed to launch, everyone longs for what they could have been...

The curtianwall portions of Aura work, and work well, which means it looks fairly good on the skyline. It's the lower 50 floors or so which are so bad.

Agreed that the lower portion is terrible and the window wall is particularly jarring. I personally find the podium especially bad, having never been to the retail below. They keep trying to tack on LED screens thinking it would detract from the rest. I agree if they oriented the Scaddabush (and other restaurants) and their patios onto Yonge street, it would at least have added animation to what is currently just a glass expanse of services that close after 5pm.

First 50 floors agreed are amongst the worst in the city. The upper floors, particularly the lights really make me love it at night. Even when the LED strips are not all working it still visually works. I swear most nights there are portions that are off that weren’t the night before etc but I love that. (But in the dark you can’t see those first 50 floors )

it's amazing what better designs you can have, when you don't have tiny balconies to worry about...hat's off
Just like the uber expensive "The One" = no balconies to clutter the look, plus long-term the building will have lower maintenance costs (condo fees) all those apartment buildings from the 60's and 70's are having to re-do all the balconies (exposed rebar doesn't last too long).
