Toronto Union Station Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | NORR

Why? it won't change anything 95% of all traffic currently on front is Taxis. The area has basically done the job for them through design and all you'll do is shift the few pick-up/drop-off vehicles to other streets where there aren't any loading zones.
The amount of people on the sidewalks at peak times cannot be handled currently - it will get a lot better when there's no advanced greens to get onto Front at Union.

I heard a rumour that the city is considering closing Front Street in front of Union to regular through traffic; bicycles, taxis and buses exempt.

It'll make sure that people arriving at union station take Taxis only and no Uber. There are already signs in union that direct to the "license taxi area" (or whatver language it was they used). The city must have taxi companies in their ear or something.

IMO consumers should be allowed to have choice and they shouldn't be making it difficult for us to have that.

Is it possible to make the area within Front-Bay-Lake Shore-York pedestrian mostly? No through traffic on Bay or York between Front and Lake Shore and no through traffic on Front between Bay and York. Obviously Lake Shore can’t be closed to through traffic. Vehicles must either turn right or left, resulting in a single vehicle phase and a all-way pedestrian phase at the Bay/Front and York/Front intersections only.

Here you go again! Of course, it's POSSIBLE. Is it likely to happen? I say "NO", we live in a City where car travel is seen as THE most important thing
