Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Park Hyatt's roof lounge has a great view of the city. The original photo is from Leonard Poole circa 1958. My view is from 2016View attachment 133947 View attachment 133948
I took this one in September

Michael, thanks for the mention of "Vintage Toronto on facebook."
I've just spent a pleasant hour browsing and really enjoyed your excellent site.
I'll be back for more.
Thanks Goldie - It has been quite the undertaking trying to get every photo ever taken of Toronto in one place. If you check it out again forget about the timeline and go directly into the albums. - https://www.facebook.com/pg/VintageToronto/photos/?tab=albums

Interesting that the 1926 photo still shows a level crossing on Bay. Although the new Union Station was completed in 1920, it took seven years until the station openend in 1927, given that the railways (the Grand Trunk which ended up going bankrupt, nationalized by the federal government and merged into CN) had not constructed the required grade separations on the major north-south streets.

Having said that, it took an additional three years after the 1927 opening of Union Station until the Bay Street grade separation "subway" was completed and Bay was re-openend to traffic:
