I know they had plans to fix up the ground floor, but haven't heard anything about a new tower. The company that owns it doesn't do residential, so it's safe to say they are just working on improvements to the existing office building.

Also, your info is a bit off. It's owned by Artis, not Marwest.

It was the property behind this whole situation:

Artis is getting into residential ... lol... probably to offset the losses they are taking in Alberta. They are planning to start building a 40 something storey rental tower in Winnipeg. This, of course, in Toronto is just more baseless speculation.

Do they have to tear down the 19 storey stucture in order to build this project. Or just build on top or around it?

415 YONGE STREET

415 Yonge Street -- Toronto, ON, Canada

Artis is exploring opportunities for a densification project at 415 Yonge Street in Toronto, Ontario. 415 Yonge Street is in a prime location in downtown Toronto, across from the College Park station and in close proximity to the University of Toronto and Ryerson University. Preliminary plans to build an additional 50 floors of apartment units above this 19-storey office building are under way.

Hopefully they maintain the appearance of the original with its robust vertical design. I would hate to see more glass cladding, especially with the chintzy effort across the street.

You're right about that. Look what happened to 488 university tower. That was a nice looking building. All nice looking sixties structures should be preserved not stripped down with glass !

Zoning By-law Amendment to facilitate the addition of a 42-storey residential tower on top of the existing 19-storey office building. The overallbuilding height is 61-storeys (239.35 metres). Total GFA 53,064.8 square metres, consisting of 16,936.3 square metres of existing non-residential GFA and 36,128.5 square metres of proposed residential GFA.
