Union Station: Northwest PATH Expansion

It wouldn't connect to the path on the NW corner of Wellington and York under the HSBC building?

EDIT....I can't even picture where at York and Wellington it would be able to have an outdoor exit/entrance.

Indeed--double checked street view and there's virtually no space on any corner except the northeast one, which is already a staircase up from the PATH, so at that point it makes more sense to just go straight to HSBC at the northwest.

phase 2 is the indoor connection. Phase 1 was the part that is open that connects to the entrance on the north-centre corner of York/University/Front.

Apparently public consultations are planned to start soon. See: https://www.toronto.ca/services-pay...city-facilities/union-station/northwest-path/

They are looking at 4 possible routes:

Alignment #1: York Street
This is the preferred alignment from the 2008 EA. It travels north from the end of the existing Contract 1 tunnel, following under York Street to Wellington Street. It connects to the existing PATH system at 100 Wellington St. W. and/or 70 York St.

Alignment #2: Front Street
This alignment will travel west from the Contract 1 tunnel, crossing the Line 1 Subway, and continuing west along the north side of Front Street. It will connect to the existing PATH network at Simcoe Place via a new development and concourse at 160 Front St. W.

Alignment #3: Building Alignment
This alignment travels east from the Contract 1 tunnel into the Royal York Hotel concourse level. A new connection will be built from the concourse, north under Piper Street, linking up to the existing PATH system at 95 Wellington St. W.

Alignment #4: TPA Parking Lot
This alignment will travel northwest from the end of the existing Contract 1 tunnel, travelling north along the east side of University Ave., re-purposing a part of the existing underground TPA parking lot. It connects to the existing PATH system at 55 University Ave. and/or new connections to 40 University Ave. and 70 University Ave.

Selection Process
Upon completion of a multiple criteria evaluation in line with the existing EA, one preferred alignment will be selected for further design refinement. Design options will evaluate building connections and routing in more detail to determine how to minimize construction related impacts to landowners, PATH users, and others in the area. The Municipal Class EA Addendum process will continue into mid-2018 with construction anticipated to commence no earlier than 2020.

I would prefer 3... less construction interfering with major streets and gives that part of the PATH new life. 2 will be great too once the tower gets built, like said above... it also needs a lot more of a push to connect it to the rest of the success

One of 1, 3 & 4 should be built - and 2 should be built as part of when 160 front west (is that the right one?) is built. Also... is that simcoe tunnel actually already built ?
Yes, #2 clearly brings the PATH to a new area (or better connects an old one.) I assume the tunnel would be a condition for approving 160 Front. Of course, bringing it under Front to the Convention Centre is another needed project.

Build one, have it connect with the existing PATH at 95 Wellington West as well as TD plaza, heck, even extend it further north to the Standford Life Centre tunnel, and as Kitsune said before, build two with 160 Front St West.

I would think that if 1 was built and connected to 70 York (instead of the 100 Wellington connection shown in the picture) that 4 would serve no distinct useful purpose....but 2 and 3 I can see as different.

2 sounds complicated what with crossing the subway line again. Why wouldn't they just route it through the existing PATH connection at the Citibank building ???

Isn't the Citibank building slated to be demo'd to make way for whatever Oxford decides to do with the entire city block?
