Agreed. The town homes in particular really do not add anything of quality to the public experience. It is disappointing because that base of Boutique had introduced a nice facade on Nelson Street, warm brick, retail etc. this building really kills turning Nelson into an interesting destination.
Is there electrical / water hookups? It always surprises me, you go to other cities large and small and when they design spaces with program in intent they put in the infrastructure to support these activities. So often we forget this in Toronto.
I agree in some respect, I think the tower portion is quite striking, the patterns are subtle and high quality. However, in seeing the photos the Yonge Street podium really misses the mark. While its glass it feels really heavy and disjointed from the street, missing the elegance of the Bloor...
I'd agree with you however it's dependent on if those benches are removable or not, otherwise there is limited space to actually set up a sizeable market area.
I agree
I agree... I was there today for the first time and it is one of the worst new public spaces I have seen in Toronto. The design doesn't really take into account any programming or even a thought for how people would use this space. I saw skateboarding on the benches and dogs going to...
I went to check this building out a few weeks ago since I was already in the area. I would never go back (perhaps only to check out the roof), for a building that was supposedly redone it has the worst internal circulation and way-finding I have experience at a GTA mall in a long time. It is...
I saw them walking home last week... to say they look like bad Christmas lights would be an understatement .... it completely misses the mark on the "warm by night program" and most of the time it was just an Italian flag pattern. Honestly RAW's project is the most disappointing of all the...
Maybe this was addressed earlier on, but did anyone else notice that the illuminated art piece that never worked was removed ... do we know if a new art piece is being installed or if its being repaired?
While the public realm is of higher quality than most neighbourhoods in the Downtown, this area feels very sterile and the architecture is really uninspiring.
Very interested to see the finished product, my first impression after a site visit was that it's way over designed beyond and we will probably end up with a similar situation as June Callwood park, but hoping it's not the case.
In paris though there are very different rules for how the parks can be used. You're not allowed to go on grass, parks are gated and closed after hours and most parks do not allow dogs or animals in them.
