    Toronto 333 Queen Street East | 162.2m | 50s | Generation Capital | a—A

aA have certainly played a part in the overall blandness of condominium design in this city. To their credit, the use of curtain wall is a good part of many of their designs and developers have embraced that. They have done great work at times. But a newer building like 8 Cumberland is, in my...

    Toronto Sugar Wharf Condominiums (Phase 2) | 283.6m | 85s | Menkes | a—A

I remember when someone posted a comment about the generic design of a particular aA building some 15 or so years ago,. Urban Shocker’s response was that Toronto should be so lucky if all the towers were designed by aA. I can’t imagine a more horrible fate for the skyline. These could easily be...

    Toronto One Delisle | 155m | 44s | Slate | Studio Gang

It’s because it’s designed by a non-Toronto architectural firm. For whatever reason, international firms have contributed by far the best designs, both residential and commercial, in this city for the last 20 years. In my opinion, Hariri Pontarini have been the best local firm for their varied...

    Toronto The Whitfield | 130m | 39s | Menkes | Giannone Petricone

I just wished they had done something more creative with the mechanical box. It just sits there like a grey lump on an otherwise interesting building. Even extending the vertical columns so they attached to the mechanical might have added more visual interest.

A moody 50 Scollard taken from the parkade roof during the Yorkville Mural fest.

I’m with you. The huge, grey mechanical box looks awful. They had a chance to really make this building stand out with an interesting crown and likely chose the cheapest option.

    Toronto Burke Condominiums | 163.45m | 53s | Concert | Arcadis

Agreed. The render shows curtain wall glass. If they had actually used curtain wall, this building would have been a much better addition to the area.

A lovely addition to the waterfront.

    Toronto Q Tower | 197.4m | 59s | Lifetime | Wallman

Doesn’t this version just feel a bit like a copy and paste of the Tableau design, albeit taller? The original two tower design had much more appeal, at least to me.

    Toronto 8 Elm | 218.2m | 69s | Reserve Properties | Arcadis

A complaint one could have with numerous Toronto towers, especially in the entertainment district and the various Concord messes in the city. I’m simply pointing out that, for me, there are positives to this tower and I don’t overlook them when analyzing the tower as a whole. In general, there...

    Toronto 8 Elm | 218.2m | 69s | Reserve Properties | Arcadis

I agree that 8 Elm shows great promise for the area. The addition of colour and a break away from the ‘box’ mentality that dominated the conservative architecture of the last two decades is a real positive. However, I’ve never quite understood the almost universal hatred for Aura on this...
