This may be the best looking tall building Toronto's gotten in the last 20 years. The parts all come together so well without any awkwardness and the materials seem to be high quality. The mechanical actually fits in. And the smooth form from base to top reminds me of the bank towers, where...
There's some great pics on here. If you have a really good and recent photo of the toronto skyline I would encourage donating it to the wikimedia commons so it can be put up on the Toronto wikipedia page. The pics on there are all from around 2005 or earlier and do not represent Toronto well...
Well FYI, Toronto the city alone has a GDP more than 3 times larger, and 20% higher GDP per capita than Calgary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_by_GDP)
Guess we have to wait till newer updates come around to actually comment but as is, this design is really really bad. there's too much going on and no actual theme to the buildings. He said he wanted waterfalls to be the theme and then throws in a random cube on top of each setback, like wtf...
Well Toronto, you'll now be able to lay claim to the ugliest Trump tower in the world, the ugliest Frank Gehry buildings in the world, and probably the ugliest communications/observation tower in the world. Congrats!
I still can't believe this design was approved. It's not often you see 65 story walls of concrete and spandrel being built, but hey it's Toronto. No shame here, next thing you know we'll be building our skyscrapers out of cow patties.
would have been nice if they had done away with the higher setback and kept both of the terraces at the same lower height. There's already enough assymetry on the building, and that way the view from the east wouldn't be so terrible. either way the one good feature on this building is the light...
o god, that spandrel. make it go away. coloured opaque spandrel should be banned. and it looks like they chose the same colour as trump tower. compare this cladding to delta, what a huge difference.
I would hope they'd give way to some sort of public space like a square or something. From the pics by Lnahid2000, this area seems like it could use a large tree or two. hopefully one bloor brings some decent sized trees.
I like that first pic from urbandreamer with all 3 blue buildings, they appear very monolithic and modern. The blue is almost irridescent as if they're glowing and giving off an aura.
