Realty taxes, utilities, insurance and security taxes on a large empty office building would be huge. If it's being demolished anyways, better to do it now and save millions.
A big baseball themed brew pub with brick exterior and patio would be a great addition to RC. It would add to the non-game day street experience, and give Rogers a rental venue all year round.
Oakville is a NIMBY city. They say no to everything.
This project is across from the GO train, and is up against the QEW. It is the best location in the city for intensification.
And it will actually be good for the city. Downtown Oakville is full of empty store fronts.... not enough people...
For some folks, a "stupid tiny space" is all they can afford. If a "stupid tiny space" lets someone live where they want to live (downtown), rather than far out is suburbia where land is cheaper, then maybe there is market for "stupid tiny spaces". As for "adequate" and "happy lives", who...
Let the purchasers decide. If you don't want one, then don't buy one. If they cannot sell enough to make the project viable, then they'll have to start over.
Can't wait to see it done... going April 9 vs. Seattle to check it out. Last year's renos were all about not watching the game. The new bars and food options were great, but felt like it was all for people who weren't there to watch the game. This year with the focus on seats and view of the...
Unfortunately the new higher sloped seating means a lot of people wont be able to see the plays being made down in the corner. The view to the infield is much better, but we lose some views of the deep left and right field foul lines.
Instead of a myriad of excuses as to what is wrong with this project, just admit that you hate tall buildings (when they are near you) and had some fantasy about a free park built on the site.
How about cantilever a huge outside deck around the southside of the stadium, on the 3rd level -- similar to the Jack Astors patio at Dundas? TVs so you could still pretend to watch the game. With separate access it could be a space for non-game days too.
