I wonder (hope) if they will start building the park this spring?

This can’t possibly get built... I hope. It’s a clumsy mess but, I suppose, the podium plus one floor up could work out if good materials are used. Very discouraging.

The Broadview Terraces (377 Broadview Ave, n of Gerrard E, ?, 3s, Studio JCI)

Broadview north of Riverdale Ave on the east side has primo di primo potential. The view of downtown from there is breathtaking. I realize that acquiring existing properties would cost a fortune and Riverdale residents would be out with torches and pitchforks if a developer so much as proposed...

    Toronto | 401 Bay Street (formerly Simpson Tower) | 144m | 33s | Cadillac Fairview | WZMH

I decided to wait for this project to be completed before I commented on it. Guess there’s no longer a need to wait. Unless the podium is so spectacular that it mitigates the general awfulness of the tower I think I can safely say that it’s ...awful. NPS is framed with some pretty nasty ugliness.

Paradise Theatre (1006 Bloor St W, Tawse, restoration, ERA Architects)

Beautiful restoration. So good to see it in all its glory.

10 Dundas East (former Toronto Life Square, Ent Prop Trust, 10s, Baldwin & Franklin)

Those concrete walkways should have been removed when NPS was “improved” a few years ago. Maybe they could string some overhead TTC and hydro wires to blend in with the general Toronto Motif.

Thanks GabrielHurl, I often wondered how those crane shafts were dealt with. I suppose, in a condo building, they could be converted into little elevator shafts for deliveries only. Or a really tall fire pole.

Does anyone know how, or what, will plug the hole that the black crane tower now sits in? The elevator shafts are located at the western perimeter of the site. What will occupy the shaft that the crane tower now sits in?

Looks very promising. It’s so good to see a good mix of materials. I love the podium. I can’t tell if this site extends west all the way to Church street. Does anyone know?

I think it looks better than the Massey Tower.

The tower portion looks like a vertical penitentiary.

    Toronto | YC Condos -- Yonge at College | 198m | 62s | Canderel | Graziani + Corazza

This is the worst new podium on Yonge Street. It’s squat, dark and opaque. So far the only retail is a credit union. A few anonymous entrances and a dead wall of dark glass. WOW, how did this rubbish get approved?

    Toronto | Brixton, The | 45m | 12s | Fitzrovia | Graziani + Corazza

Good post concrete-and-light. The north south downtown streets you mention are dreadful and a colossal waste of housing space.

Toronto | Toronto City Hall and Nathan Phillips Square | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | Perkins + Will

I loved the Toronto sign when it first appeared. Then city hall decided to add a deformed maple leaf (yes, we know we’re in Canada) at the tail end of “Toronto”. Then, not to leave bad enough alone, they cluttered it up even more by adding a circular pseudo aboriginal symbol at the front end of...
