Forgive my ignorance but what are some cold weather limitations on HSR we could expect with Alto? I’m intimately familiar with cold weather restrictions in aviation operations so I’m expecting there are very real considerations that could add to travel time…. Could these trains reliably run at...
On a personal note, I am one of these people. I closed on a place in Barrie a mere month before we learned the ONExpress OOI contract imploded and of the extent GO Expansion is scaled back. Of course responsibility is still mine (ultimately) for jumping the gun a bit before anything was...
Wow, yeah totally missed the GO service thread discussion when that happened. You basically argued all the points I have in mind.
Those guys did make it sound like it's impossible to build next to the 400....I'm with you; it may not be as simple as a track right beside the road versus...
I knew I remembered the talk of a GO rail line to Orillia from way back (found it back from this post in 2022) so this isn't my own novel idea, but this earworm got me thinking while I was bored one day how rail could possibly be restored through Orillia and it gave me kind of a grand idea...
This.
Everything @insertnamehere said, plus some further context for you; Porter bought these jets at an extremely favourable time. Embraer has struggled to move the E2 into the market, so as far as I'm aware, Porter bought these jets for pennies on the dollar and has become (or soon will be)...
Actually now that I see this pic, the extent of the site preparation is pretty good. From what I remember, they've removed the grass/topsoil and prepared essentially the whole length of the new platform, north and south of the station building (minus the bridged section):

I can't help but go back...
I got an email from Deputy Mayor Ausma Malik regarding a community meeting tomorrow 6pm-8pm (Mon, 26 May) about the RapidTO Bathurst project.
Here's the link if you want to sign up and get sent a link to join
Just in case any of you want to help be the counter-voice to those concerned about...
Thinking in terms of funding a commuter or 2WAD service to Collingwood, I wonder if there exists a mechanism for the county to partially fund operations? Line 2 of the LINX bus service already hits the major town centers between Allendale and Collingwood (minus Cwood itself, of course)...
100% agreed. I feel the tram proposal is shooting for the stars but the city's examination/discussion, itself, is a litmus test for how they view the role of transit as Barrie grows (and by extension the future of BCRY within that vision). It'll be very telling how they turn this proposal down...
I just came across this article a few days ago. TLDR; a Barrie city councillor is asking council to consider a "rail trolley" using the BCRY ROW to connect that Essa/Hwy 400 development to Allendale GO.
I have a hunch that conversation in council will die a quiet death....the notion of any...
