It's pretty systemic of a general shortage of skilled trades. We knew this would be coming years ago when it was estimated that we'd be short at least 1m skilled laborers nationally in the next few years. It's just a culmination of many small setbacks snowballing the overall schedule. However...

Not to mention the p42s are arguably one of the ugliest utilitarian looking passenger locos around. It's comprised of only square shapes and 90 degrees turns. No aesthetic considerations at all vs the F40

guys dont forget that the original estimates were pre pandemic and inflation. This year alone has spiked all material costs by exponential amounts so the cost increase is expected. it just goes to show the fetish for subway tunnels has reach affordable peaks

Think about it this way. The reason why bbr NA struggled was that there was little business available due to railways being too cheap and just constantly refurbing. You can't survive long teem in that type of operating model even if you're competent. Businesses rely on product purchases to...

40 years is a very very long time imto keep rolling stock. You dont see many people trying to scrape every inch off of that 1995 ford aerostar van do you? They could easily sell them to other railways especially the gen 1 to 5s. Not to mention by buying new trains more frequently we could've...

Honestly it's anyone's guess on MLs logic or lack there of...maybe they're thinking is older is cheaper?? Still regardless trying to scrape out every inch of the walking dead is typical Canadian frugal/cheap Railway mentality.

Im thinking thats Probably that's what they were planning to do all along and the first gen cab cars originally were supposed to be scrapped. However with this current electrification plan and the dropping of emus from the equation, now all of a sudden they need more cab cars and perhaps it was...

I would lament the fact that they cared more about timeliness back then if grandpa's story checks out. These days the trains are late by 15-20min we shrug our shoulders. Anywhere else in Europe, especially Japan that would be unacceptable

That's what usually happens with North American railways. Scrape every last second of operational runtime until the rolling stock are walking dead

    VIA Rail

It's really sad that our national Railway is this ghetto that we are constantly suggesting they buy used rolling stock that even some developing countries don't do. Hopefully with the charger sets coming this sets a new trend of buying new only
