    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Dot matrix displays are capable of displaying more than one thing! On GRT's ION, the first line is used to display the next departure and a clock, and the second line alternates between the following departure and a system message, if one is available - service disruptions, schedule changes...

    TTC Cartography, Signage, and Wayfinding

The idea that a name must already be widely known before being applied to a subway station is very silly. How many people (how many Torontonians, even) had heard of Bessarion, Chester, or Runnymede before subway stations were built there? People have surely heard of them now, though, at least in...

    TTC Cartography, Signage, and Wayfinding

The street-based station names that currently exist can be straight-up misleading if you try to use them for navigation. An example that happened to me: I was visiting Toronto for Doors Open and was hurriedly trying to reach the Toronto Archives at 255 Spadina Road. Being in a rush, I didn't...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Freight trains actually do run slightly before the end of ION service - I have often seen them heading north on Monday evenings around 11:00 PM. Southbound ION headways (but not northbound) are raised to 30 minutes after 10:40, presumably to accommodate them.

    Metrolinx: Other Items (catch all)

"Welcome Kitchener Union Station passengers on your 11:40 Kitchener Line train, making all Union Station stops to Toronto's Union Union Station. Please note that not all doors will be opening at Acton Union Station. The next stop is Guelph Central Union Station."

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Unless the 17 starts running on weekends, the Aberfoyle stop is still needed to connect K-W and Guelph. The stops at College and Queen usually had a fair number of people waiting, it's too bad they couldn't have kept at least one.

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

What's the point of any train station building? A sheltered place to wait for your train, buy tickets, get directions, use the bathroom, park your bike, etc... plus there will be a community event space.

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Speaking of intercity services... GO buses moved into the new UW bus station two weeks ago yesterday, using platform 6 for departures and platform 7 for arrivals and layovers. Up to now I was surprised at how barebones platform 7 was (not even a bench!), but it makes more sense now. Route 25C...

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

UW Station will open fully on Monday, with most GRT routes moving to platforms 3 and 4 - not the 9 and 13, for some reason, although they are still closer to the train platforms (EDIT: It's occurred to me that platforms 3 and 4 may not be long enough to accommodate all the routes). No date for...
