    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I mean, that's not really a case of rolling stock being a disaster since the rolling stock was never built in the first place. The contract being cancelled could be considered a disaster of a different kind, the same kind as when the TTC cancelled the RFP for T1 replacements due to lack of...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

The TR is part of the Movia family (has Movia been discontinued?). These T1 replacements seem to be part of the Alstom Metropolis family, various flavors of which exist in places like Warsaw, Budapest, and REM. I kinda wish it was the former, but that option was never on the table...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

The H6s are the ones that got a light refurb, only to be retired a short 7 years later. The H5s were rebuilt in the 1990s (saved them from getting replaced with more T1s), and 50% of the H4s were rebuilt in the very early 2000s (iirc) to keep running another decade (rush hour only). Not even...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Line 1 will also get a few, so it's not like line 1 would ever be stuck with handmedowns like line 2 was.

    Russian-Ukrainian War (2022- )

Well, it'd be more concerning if getting hit by a car was less likely than a terrorist attack (I'd also probably rather get hit by a car if I had to choose the lesser of 2 evils). I do use the sidewalk but always pay attention to my surroundings to see if there's anyone sketchy/suspicious...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Line 2 & 4 use the same model, but 5-car vs. 4-car sets respectively, also line 4 is ATO (no cabs, just a full-width railfan window) while line 2 is manual. So basically similar situation to our line 1 & 4. Line 3 is the one that had the old 81-717 (and Ev3) trains that were replaced in...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I like that the Alstom trains in Budapest (line 2 & 4) have a nice cream interior somewhat reminiscent of the H-series (or even the R42), rather than bland gray/white.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I never commented on how reliable or on-time their system is vs. ours. At least all of our trains (old & new) look like trains/subways, unlike 99.9% of theirs (old & new, especially the deep-tube stock). I like the proposed design of the new trains we're gonna get for what it is, and don't...

That's hardly something we should seek to emulate.

    Russian-Ukrainian War (2022- )

Unfortunately sources like this (and this) suggest otherwise. What's even more outrageous is that some of them apparently actually were released on bail/probation. Can't blame me (or anyone else) for feeling this way though. I was never one to think "bad things happen to other people, not...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I strongly disagree. I like the original proposed design way more, and hope they stick to it. This newest 3rd render isn't bad (better than the 2nd one), but I still prefer the 1st. The good news is that they're expected to be here "later this decade" (so before 2030).

    Russian-Ukrainian War (2022- )

Canada's biggest concern right now should be to deter terrorists from even trying (they've already tried multiple times in the past couple years alone, and it's naive to think they'd give up and not try again). In the meantime, I'm gonna keep looking over my shoulder and avoiding crowded public...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

There were no new deliveries between the end of 2001 and 2010, and the former were also delivered & entered service on line 1 first, before being handed down to line 2 (though admittedly I don't see the logic of putting the newer T1s on line 1 and displacing the older T1s to line 2 rather than...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Yes the gangways will span all 6 cars, but they could still be uncoupled into 3 pairs, unlike the TRs. Though maybe they should've gone with the REM configuration with the gangways spanning each pair only. The details should've already been worked out when the RFP was posted twice in 2023/2024...

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

"Aged poorly" in the sense that it's seen as "vintage" and "dated" at this point already (as recently as 2 years ago, some people thought that even the T1s still don't seem that way). Equipment can be outdated and still function just fine (see the H4s for example).
