As someone who loves going to the races (been going for 20 years now all the way back to when I was age 7 or so), count me as someone who wants the race track to survive. Horse racing is a fantastic tradition and Woodbine is the top track in Canada (and one of the top tracks in North America) and we have a number of marquee events there. The track actually does pretty well as well. It's something that should definitely be preserved.
 
Rumours continue to fly regarding the death of Woodbine Live. Last week in an interview with Global Toronto, while discussing Rob Ford's campaign, George Smitherman mentioned in passing the project is dead.

"The one that keeps coming back to me is Woodbine Live. In every all-candidates meeting and every chance that he could he said that he was personally responsible for Woodbine Live, the biggest economic development miracle ever to hit Toronto. The thing’s dead."

Not that he's connected to the project in any way, but I suspect Smitherman has better connections to the development industry than most regular people.
 
And so, will coach Ford and brother Doug now tout this location as being the right spot for their casino love?
