Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

China would have completed the Ontario Line in under a decade from first shovel to first revenue service.
I bet China'd also deliver new trains in less than a year after the contract was awarded, if they got the contract instead of Alstom.

Ontario line is very much looking at an early 2030S completion date. Until we have evidence of the contrary there's no need to speculate beyond that.
its not going to be completed faster than late 2032. we do in fact have evidence of delays especially at queen/yonge
I wouldnt be suprised at this point if it was 2034

Lol I did say early 2030s for a reason.

Imo that means anything before 2035.

Which means suggesting 2041 is waaay out of line with the facts on the ground.

Edit...I see now that I forgot to add the 's' in my original comment

Outside of an eglinton crosstown levels of delays ...2041 would be a joke.

2041 is excessive pessimism though we do have numbers now to conclude that it’s unlikely to be 2031.

Queen (Yonge) station is on track to be finished in late 2030 or early 2031 which wouldn’t allow time for testing unless tunnel and finished stations testing are done concurrently while finishing the stations that are behind.

That said, the potential for deficiencies in an interchange station as complex as Queen that connects to another subway line and is itself connected to a mall and 3 other buildings directly, is virtually guaranteed. How much time do we allow for deficiencies? At least another year, maybe more if they’re as bad as Eglinton which was far less complex to build than the Ontario Line.

If I had to put my money down: 2033.

2034 opening would mean 13 years of construction. Not much better than Crosstown...

Man, I'll be seventy years old. DoFo will likely be dead.

It's amazing how long everything takes in Canada. China would have completed the Ontario Line in under a decade from first shovel to first revenue service.
If you would like to build like China, you would have to import their whole legal and political framework, as well as the workforce.

But the general public don't have much knowledge or understanding of this. They would just say, look, another failed project!
Fair.

But this is urbantoronto not the toronto stars opinion section.

Lets try to keep thing in perspective or else the thread will naturally devolve into the usual reddit levels of discussion, which servers no transit enthusiast.

There isn't much we can do to influence the pace of construction, it will be what it is.

What can be influenced is being transparent now, so expectations remain reasonable.

I don't want to see us going through the same two years of pain from 2033 onwards that we just went through with Crosstown. "When will it open? What's taking so long?"

Set transparent expectations now, and follow up with periodic updates that are honest and complete.
