President Donald Trump's United States of America

It's pretty much guaranteed to be messy regardless. They're going to have ICE at polling stations during mid-terms. There'll be lots of instances of them pulling people from lines for being "illegal" or "unable to vote". Cool country.

The only way Trump leaves office is if he dies. There will be no peaceful transfer of power while he's alive, and ICE will ensure that.
While I am certain Trump will try to disrupt the elections, federally or otherwise…l am less convinced he will get away with it. I don’t think people will allow for it for one…

And while this most certainly a fascist regime, it is one that glaringly that repeatedly shoots itself in the feet with its own incompetence and incontinence…

…so let’s not dwell too too much on the doomerisms here. While there are certainly concerns…let’s see how this will all play out before writing it off, IMO.

No need to be doomerist, but no need to be pollyannaist about what is happening in the US. Once I heard about the plans to massively increase the funding of ICE and stack its ranks with people personally loyal to Trump, it became clear that that was the Brownshirts they would use to try to retain their grip on power. Trump is purging the military leadership but could not trust them to play that role.

TRUMP: VOTER ID IN MIDTERMS WHETHER APPROVED BY CONGRESS OR NOT

….the tighter they will grip the more will slip by.

So, you don't need identification to vote in elections in some US states - what kind of banana republic is this place? 🤣
36 states already have voter ID requirements. The rest, including DC, have others processes where the State is verifying the voter's citizenship to put them on the rolls prior to arrival at polling stations.

The US has very limited input or control in the conduct of elections. Deploying ICE to polls; however, will have an intimidating impact. I suspect some states will petition the courts to keep ICE away but I don't know how successful they will be.

The military is expressly forbidden by law from getting involved at home. And most military personnel would have ethical objections to doing so anyway. The military ousting an elected leader is something that would make anybody who grew up in a democratic society extremely uncomfortable. Even if it's Trump. The courts would (and should) use law enforcement to enforce the law. It's why they exist.
Even if Congress disavows Trump authority ?

How do you 'police' a police state ?

Congress does not have its own police force, while the troops swear allegiance to the Constitution, not the President. Criminal contempt referrals from Congress go to the Department of Justice… which works for the President, so that won't work. The only tool Congress has is impeachment, which tabled by the House, is almost impossible to get through the Senate.
This may prove the exception. One can only hope, even though the world has precious little say, everyone has skin in the game when the US goes rogue.

How would they even know who’s voting for whom? This would seemingly disadvantage the Republicans as well as the Democrats here. Yes, ICE has their apps…but they can’t mind read.

Trump Administration has decided that having a well educated military is pointless apparently.

President Donald Trump didn't like the fact that Prime Minister Mark Carney studied at Harvard University with a partial scholarship and financial aid. While there, Mark lived at Winthrop House, and graduated from Harvard in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in economics magna cum laude.

Their attacks on Sen. Kelly will turn him into the favourite among the 2028 Dem candidates.
Better than Newsom. I’m worried that the California Governor will win the ticket, and that Newsom’s record on high taxes, surging homelessness, identity/progressive politics, and providing sanctuary status to the undocumented, will be a big turnoff to centre-leaning Republican and independent voters. Kelly doesn’t present any of these issues.
