Toronto Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

not sure where he was going cause yesterday I drove along the stops on from Don Mills to Warden and Victoria Park to Warden Ave was yellow taped. It was pretty clear that they were doing track construction work. I wish I took a picture because I couldn't believe it. Track work. I am extremely pessimistic that this line will open in 2025.
Can we get some pictures of this? This is the one of the biggest blows of 2025 if true I guess.

It could also just be routine track maintenance in anticipation of revenue demonstration? 🥹

There's also the possibility that the stops were always kinda taped off, and that nothing has changed.......

When is Eglinton West station going to be renamed to Cedarvale station? Will it be on the day of line 5's opening or before or after?

I think on some communications from metrolinx they are already referring to it as Cedervale station.
I think probably once they announce a firm opening date they will rename it, based on what they did for the york university extension.

seems like waiting carries risks that could be avoided. what's the rationale for waiting?

The Cedervale renaming doesn't have the same urgency as Downsview/Sheppard West since there's no new station that's going to be opening with a very similar name. Part of the rationale was they wanted to avoid confusion by providing a period where they would communicate that the station was "formerly Downsview" but they wanted to say that as little as possible once Downsview Park was a place you could go. With Cedarvale, they can say "formerly Eglinton West" long after line 5 is opened.

Also, that renaming was just on the TTC, whereas this is a something where Metrolinx and the TTC need to coordinate. Not sure if Mx are paying the TTC for all the signage/map/automated voice changes, but if so and that money hasn't yet flowed or there's some approvals, it could be holding it all up.

What risks are going to be mitigated by renaming the station sooner?

In the end, when they do it will make no material difference at all. The terminally helpless will be equally lost and confused now as they would be if they renamed it in five years.

To add to this, today (May 22nd, 2025 @ 2:08PM) - Spotted a few trains speeding along the above-ground sections during the light rain, specifically the East Portal at Don Valley Station.
did the destination signs say training in progress or did it say (line 5 to mount dennis)?

Ive seen trains go by with alternating signage. It switches between "Kennedy" and "5 Eglinton"

Im not a huge fan of the 5 Eglinton signage because it looks like an "S", so it looks like "SEGLINTON"
There are at least 4 different destination sign programs installed on the cars right now. It seems that they still haven't decided which one they are going with.

Soo... if the 3 month announcement rule is still in effect, we should hear in the next week that its opening in September right?
As far as I know they have not done the 1 month trial period that Metrolinx requires, so it probably means at least an October opening.......

Anyone feel free to correct me, I hope I am wrong 👍

The 3-month TTC testing and 1-month Metrolinx test could happen concurrency.

"Those two processes may overlap - the Metrolinx 1 month test may coincide with the TTC's pre-revenue service." - smallspy (page 1770)
