Should the LCBO be deregulated?

As expected, the Manulife LCBO is just displaying more Crown Royal where American whiskies used to be. I hope we can expect new products in the next few weeks.

I'm not that widely travelled but I can't say I've beer in the US that I found exceptionally good with the exception of a few craft beers in Michigan.

Yeah, the US probably has better beer than any other country in the world, but we hardly ever got any of it. Losing the stuff they sold in the LCBO/Beer Store was definitely no loss.

I agree! You walk in to the grocery store, they got 30 different types of craft beer. Here i walk into the grocery stores, it's all macro swill.

Agreed. Craft beers can be good (I had one pre-Jan 20, but I can't remember the name now), but the larger corporate American beer? Watered down swill.

Yes corporate American beer is water, like our macro beer. But the US does have amazing craft beer. NYC has stores that sell nothing but craft beer. Wish we could have stores like that here. I'd spending a lot there making them rich lol.

Wasn't there one in Liberty Village at one time?

It was the "beer boutique", run by The Beer Store ... you could buy individual cans, etc, in a nicer environment than the typical Beer Store. It was quite a few years ago, just before the craft/micro brewery craze took off. (Google helped my memory)

oh i remember that now. Yeah that concept didn't last long. They basically stocked macro swill in a fancier environment. Not surprising it failed. The big brewer giants that own the beer store, do everything in their power to block the sale of independent craft beer. The Beer Store monopoly needs to end ASAP.

You're clearly going to the wrong grocery stores.

First off, there is actually a minimum shelf space quota for craft beer under the supermarket and convenience store licenses.

There is no maximum for craft product.

Second, talk to your store manager, they have wiggle room to bring in what sells.

I spoke to a local manager and rearranged their wine list to suit my taste....... I also gave them notes on what would sell widely and why and how to market it. I got two dozen SKUs switched.

Its not hard.

Quebec knocks it out of the park imo, with even some of the grocery stores having huge amounts of craft beer. Some people have a selection at their nearby dep (dépanneur), or incredible shops like Broue Ha Ha in Gatineau and the small chain of Le Monde des Bières stores around Quebec City.

So it's the LCBO fault alright. Now if we remove the interprovincial trade nonsense, maybe we will see more Canadian craft beers on the shelves?

NY state still does it better than here with craft beer.
