Toronto Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Is there a date that the line is expected to be opened?
What is left to be done?
No public date as of yet, insider reports indicate December 2024 at this point. However no denial or confirmation from the province or metrolinx. We should be getting another bi-monthly update at the end of the month from Metrolinx CEO. I wonder whether they announce an opening date at this one or the next update after at the end of Jan. I suspect they would want the holidays to pass and an announcement at the end of Jan. But who knows at this point.

Has there been a schedule out to address all the deficiencies. Most should be relatively straightforward, but some less so.

Subject to budget approval.

The 32D EGLINGTON WEST Emmett & Jane bus could be replaced by the 73B ROYAL YORK bus from Royal York Station to Mt. Dennis Station. Will it be one-way along Emmett Avenue to Mt. Dennis Station? What about Mt. Dennis Station to Emmett Avenue?

A 901 AIRPORT-EGLINTON EXPRESS could be running between Pearson Airport, via Dixon Road, Scarlett Road, Lawrence Avenue West, and Weston Road to Mt. Dennis Station. Likely to detour around the construction on Eglinton Avenue West for the Eglinton West LRT extension.

Is the 935 JANE EXPRESS going bye-bye? Replaced with RapidTO Jane? Or is it a typo?

Wayfinding sign at Mt. Dennis Station...

UGH they aren't going to have a stupid bus running along Eglinton like they have the 97 for the subway are they?

The stop spacing is not that far! Its so not needed. Thats why we built a freaking LRT! To get rid of the bus!!

If you can't walk 500m thats what WheelTrans is for...

Two years ago when they did the survey, people demanded for one along the surface portion. Thus the 34 is extended from Science Centre to Kennedy. There doesn't seem to be any branches either. It's one service running for the entire line.

I'll expect the service to discontinue, as least in parts within a few years like how the 49B Bloor to Jane Stn was after 3 years. The 97 fills in 2km gaps between stations north of Eglinton, thus it's the only reason why it's still there.

Lets hope, and lets hope that if the bus is actually used, even a bit, they add that ridership to the LRT ridership estimates. I can see the headlines now complaining that the Crosstown didnt meet expected ridership, meanwhile this dumb bus is bleeding off riders.

A bus along Eglinton Avenue (both East and West) maybe useful if they have only ONE elevator connecting one level to another. Would need the bus for accessibility.

If they have two elevators between each level, hopefully one will be still be running while the other elevator is out of service.

Found this in 2024 Annual Service Plan (For Action)

73B Royal York
Branch Extension
City wards: Ward 5 – York South-Weston,
Time periods: All times

In the 2022 Annual Service Plan, a new 170 Emmett route was proposed as part of the Line 5 Network Plan. A revised proposal is now recommended that provides better connections. However, there are several operational constraints that will need to be addressed prior to implementation

It is recommended that the 73B Royal York branch be extended from its current end-of-line looping via La Rose Ave, Scarlett Rd and Eglinton Ave West to Mount Dennis Station to replace 170 Emmett route proposal detailed in the 2022 Annual Service Plan. The benefit of this change provides two-way service along Emmett Ave and La Rose Ave, provides a better end-of-line, and allows for additional connections to and from Line 2 and Line 5, and regional rail.

From Royal York Station, these buses would operate via north on Royal York Rd, east on La Rose Ave, south on Scarlett Rd, east on Eglinton Ave West, north then east on Emmett Ave, south on Jane St, east on Eglinton Ave West, south then west on Keelesdale Rd, north on Photography Dr to Mount Dennis Station, and then the reverse routing.

901 Airport-Eglinton Express

New Express Route City wards: Ward 1 – Etobicoke North, Ward 5 – York South-Weston Time periods: All times

It is recommended that a new 901 Airport-Eglinton Express route be implemented to connect customers from Toronto Pearson International Airport to Mount Dennis Station on Line 5.

From Mount Dennis Station, these buses will operate via south on Photography Dr, east then north on Keelesdale Rd, west on Eglinton Ave West, north on Weston Rd, west on Lawrence Ave West, north on Scarlett Rd, west on Dixon Rd, west on Airport Rd, through Toronto Pearson International Airport looping via south on Jetliner Rd, east on Silver Dart Dr, south then east on the ramp to Terminals 1 and 3, making stops at Terminal 1 (Ground Level), and then at Terminal 3 (Arrivals Level), to Airport Rd, and then the reverse routing.

This route will provide a direct transit connection from Mount Dennis Station to Toronto Pearson International Airport with a single fare. Additionally, this will provide more express service along the Dixon Rd and Weston Rd corridors and new connections to regional transit services at Mount Dennis Station.
