Do you think the phasing of this is to prepare this bridge and the connection to Commissioners/Old Cheery and Polson St. as the new route so they can start digging old Cherry St. out for the river?
Because the 2 red bridges aren't complete yet.

Yes, the WT website has more info but they need to close "Old Cherry Street between Commissioners and Polson so they can excavate the new river mouth under the yellow bridge.

The work at the red bridges is moving well too, last I heard they hope to move the section of Cherry from the rail berm to Commissioners over to it in late October. They are in final (??) stage of sorting out Cherry immediately south of the rail berm and the work on the new Cherry from Lake Shore to the red bridge is moving ahead well too, it can clearly be seen on several photos not far back in this thread. I think the section from the red bridge to Commissioners is basically finished, though not yet paved.

The TTC has had this posted on their website for several weeks:

Cherry Beach–Route update effective August 8

Effective August 8, 2022

172 Cherry Beach will be re-routed in the Port Lands, as the first portion of new Cherry Street is opened to traffic. Buses will operate on old Cherry Street between Lake Shore Boulevard East and Commissioners Street, on Commissioners Street, and then on the new alignment of Cherry Street south to Cherry Beach Loop.

They now have the same information posted on the 172 bus stops BUT WITH AN AUGUST 29 DATE.

Maybe?

EDIT. See update from WT below, now Sept 9 - 12

WT is now saying the New Cherry St is to open early Sept.

They are also saying pier support is supposed to be in place for the south Cherry LRT bridge that has yet to be built. Don't recall seeing it nor any centre piers unless the bridge will not require any centre support.

WT is talking to the province about extra funding for the LRT extension to have a full east-west line in place before 2030/ASP and leave Union mess to TTC and the City.

Sit back and watch to see if the opening take place as plan as well having the LRT bridge support.

If TTC wasn't so gun hold on not having duel end equipment, they could built a stub track station on Commissioner in the plan ROW before the river crossing than try to find a loop area north of Commissioner. Also to do away with loops to free up land as well seal with wheel squealing that take place even with new fleet since the radius are too short.

Rescheduled - Northbound Cherry Street temporarily closed between Commissioners Street and Unwin Avenue: September 09-12

The work on Cherry Street between Commissioners Street and Polson Street that was planned for the weekend of August 26-29 has been rescheduled to September 09-12. This work is to connect the new alignment of Cherry Street with the existing alignment at Polson Street. A more detailed reminder will be sent in advance of the work.

Update: Cherry Street and Lake Shore Boulevard Intersection

Cherry Street between Lake Shore Boulevard East and Mill Street is scheduled to reopen in fall 2022. Pedestrians and cyclists will continue to be able to access Lake Shore Boulevard East via Cherry Street during the remaining construction.

Sorry, few questions here:

1. With the yellow bridge opening, will old cherry still have vehicle traffic on it for the time being?

2. Will the red north bridge also be opening to traffic soon?

3. So to get down to cherry beach from the north, will cars and bikes have to go down old cherry, make a right somewhere, make a left onto New Cherry, and then merge back with old cherry?

Just trying to understand
