Construction Update

Dear neighbours,

Below is a brief update on the progress of the CIBC SQUARE project:

Construction at 81 Bay Street
The concrete core walls of the 81 Bay Street tower have reached level 28 this week, with the concrete core continuing to rise about 1.5 levels per week. As the concrete core of the tower climbs, structural steel is installed around it, this week between levels 15-18 of the tower in addition to the south portal. Crews have also started to pour a concrete topping for each level of the tower, focusing on levels 8 and 9 this week.

This week, we’re installing a fourth crane at the site to support ongoing podium work as the tower concrete and steel climbs. You may have observed the main sections of the crane and boom being installed earlier this week, with the crane expected to be operational by Friday.

Rail Corridor Overbuild Park
We continue to install structural steel for the overbuild park, which includes plumbing, bolting and torqueing of steel, as well as truss installation. A structural steel truss is expected to be installed overnight on March 29th, between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. For safety reasons, all work in the overbuild park continues to take place overnight as workers are not permitted to be in the rail corridor during the day or evening when tracks are being used by trains. Your patience during this phase of work is very much appreciated.

When are we working?
Looking ahead, the following working hours are expected at CIBC SQUARE this week:

Hours of Work:
5AM - 7AM Monday to Friday: Deliveries at 81 Bay Street utilizing two tower cranes, as per approved noise by-law exemption permit
7AM - 7PM Monday to Friday: Regular working hours at 81 Bay
7PM - 10PM Monday to Friday: Installation of steel reinforcement at 81 Bay Street and south portal and south retail structural steel and concrete, as well as concrete formwork for the bus terminal, as per approved noise by-law exemption permit
9PM Monday March 25 to 5AM Saturday March 30: Overnight work in the rail corridor for the park overbuild
9AM - 7PM Saturday: Regular working hours at 81 Bay

Thank you for your patience and understanding. For any questions or comments, please email us at community@CIBCSQUARE.com.

March 31 - as fast as this has been going, it’s becoming hard to imagine it’ll be substantially done at this point next year. Looking forward to the summer!

The set-back on the core really seemed to slow them down. I bet with the warming weather and back to a consistent core size (for the next little while at least) we'll see it grow quickly.
