2018 Ontario Provincial Election Discussion

^ To put a context on this...far less 'offensive' (or deemed 'offensive') remarks and actions were taken as being so offensive when stated by other Con candidates that it was used to deny their suitability to stand as riding candidates, let alone leadership candidates.

Whether in the absolute Allen was 'out of order' or not, she's obviously getting a free pass on this by the Party when others have been summarily tossed for far, far less. It's become more than grotesque as to how 'sexist' comments are the doom of death, and yet racial and other offensive comments aren't.

As a subjective observation, the "rot" is as bad or worse than ever, as it appears that all previous markers of moral decorum have been tossed on the bonfire of 'win at any cost'.

You know, Schreiner is getting noticed....he's acquitting himself very well, and last election, they came in second in a number of ridings, got some 8% of the popular vote IIRC.

Green vote did go up; but they didn't come in second anywhere, largely because the Libs/Tories succeeded in holding their vote or asserting their binary advantage. But they were third with 15%+ in three ridings: Dufferin-Caledon, Parry Sound-Muskoka, and Guelph (where Schreiner ran in '14 and is running now)

My bad! Time flies...
Provincial Politics
In the 2007 provincial election, Jolley was the Green Party's candidate in Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound and came in second place with more than 33 per cent of the vote, giving Jolley the best finish of any Green Party candidate in a Canadian federal or provincial election at that time.[4]

...Guelph (where Schreiner ran in '14 and is running now)
And Sandles isn't (aren't?) running this time around.

He has quite a high profile in Guelph....which has a real political schism to it, one of which is a very ingrained 'Green' streak. There's also an ingrained Conservative streak, Mayor Cam Guthrie being an unabashed one, albeit softening a lot since being elected.

I think the province is in for some surprise upsets the polls are missing....or more accurately, with an electorate responding with emotions rather than considered thought, polls are unable to catch it.

Which worries me. The only place for illogical rage is at a football stadium. Trust me, I'm expert at this. The things that come out of me at a football match are unpublishable and if I approached all of life in the same way I would be a complete lunatic who would be said to be irrational and sociopathic.
So that's why Rexdale Raiders were an "air-ball".:p

Doesn't a Green vote just split the left to the right's advantage?
Without the declaration of an understanding for a coalition before the vote, yes. With the acceptance of the need for a coalition, strategic logistics can be put in place. That's enabled by examining previous voting results, and where Green showed exceptionally well, if they're part of a coalition, then the other two coalition members stand down. And likewise with all three partners in other ridings.

In the event, there's every indication that Dougie is going to hang himself every time he opens his mouth. So I highly suspect discussions are already underway between the Dippers and Libbers, but contingent on indications of the zombies voting for their emperor and spiritual leader such that he would have the largest minority.

Memories of 2016 USA there. Are Liberal supporters not applying any of the lessons from Trump's rise?

Every time Trump would say something outrageous, ill-informed, dishonest or offensive the left and centre minded folks would say, "now he's done for, our gal's a sure thing now". And we know how that went.

DoFo supporters don't care what he says as long as it's inflammatory, the more outrageous the better. Like it or not, there's a sizable part of the population that is angry about life in general, feels left behind by "the elites", and wants to shake the canoe even if it's against their own interest.

From the NDP election platform, at this link:

Smoother commutes, shorter drives and more transportation choices
  • We will cover 50% of operating costs for municipal transit
  • We will provide two-way all-day GO rail service between Kitchener—Waterloo and Toronto
  • We will have year-round GO rail service between Niagara and Toronto
  • We will implement a Northern Rail Strategy that restores Ontario Northlander’s passenger service and supports the Huron Central and Algoma Central Rail Lines
  • We will build Toronto’s Downtown Relief Line ASAP
  • We will build Hamilton’s LRT right away

Then someone can't add if:
