Imagine if all the important tourist and business and educational institutions in the city became connected by rapid transit. Say York University, Pearson Airport, U of T Scarborough Campus, the Toronto Zoo, the Science Centre, the Ex. Nah. That would be too crazy.
This seems to be being quoted with approval. To say “educational institutions connected...” - first off, the Ex an educational institution? It’s one thing to facilitate sessional instructors doing various classes at various campuses but how many UofT personnel need to get to the zoo? The above seems to be a ludicrous way to plan 10K+ ppdph transit projects.

The Zoo is a remote part of the city (it wouldn’t really work if it wasn’t) but the only way I could see it justifying rail transit is if the remote car park was actually made a storage/light maintenance yard to serve the eastern end of both EELRT and SELRT, and parking charges for autos increased on the main lot during the periods when the remote lot would normally be required. Even then, it’s a stretch.

It might be worth considering building a BRT line from there to Don Mills Subway station along the 404. Would hopefully increase Sheppard Subway ridership and make access much easier for many students.

In the super long term, the DRL long can be extended up there. It'll probably be deep enough that the station entrance will be in the heart of campus.

Not unless either one or both of following happens:
1) line 4 extended west to Sheppard West
2) line 1 extended to Steeles, or Richmond Hill

Right now it makes very little sense to switch from taking Finch bus direct to Finch vs line 4 - except on snow days.

I would think that a 5-6 minute connection from SC to Don Mills followed by an 8-minute subway ride (For a total of 14 minutes of actual travel, assume the transfers take the same amount of time (the sheppard to Yonge transfer is a really easy one)) would be faster than walking out of campus to Finch (10-15 minutes), taking the finch bus (16 minutes), then the Yonge line to Sheppard Yonge Station (5 minutes) for a total of around 30-35 minutes to go the same distance.

1) line 4 extended west to Sheppard West and interlined with the Spadina line - giving a continuous route to York U, Vaughan, Yorkdale, U of T.

It should faster, but it also decrease their chance of getting a good spot on the train on the Yonge line. It'd also mean an extra transfer if they are heading downtown and not Sheppard-Yonge; and we know how much people detest transfers, even though in this case the extra transfer is just a small flight of stairs..

Is it weird that http://www.ttc.ca/Riding_the_TTC/Points_of_interest/Post_secondary_institutions.jsp calls out the Finch East bus from Finch subway, but not the Don Mills North bus from Don Mills subway? Does the Don Mills bus stop too far from the campus?

If they build the subway loop, the Zoo could be connected as an LRT spur out of the City Centre thru Malvern and connect with Eglinton East LRT in the future. But given the state of transit in this City, the details of connected attractions may not be seriously considered.
