Toronto Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Yipee! They're cutting the useless Renforth Drive (not to be confused with Renforth Gateway), Rangoon and Russell/Eden Valley stops. I would have kept the East Mall though. Now if only Lloyd Manor, Wincott and Mulham would get the axe; then we'd have a true subwaylike service on Eglinton West.

From the report:

...if the line operated on a request-stop basis (and the vehicle only stopped if a rider wanted to get on or off). A request-stop service is preferred. If a request-stop operation is not possible on the LRT, the TTC will explore options for rerouting a local bus route to maintain adequate transit coverage for this community.

Good thing is that it'll be under construction before Tory completes his presumable second term. Bad thing is that we have to wait at least 4.5 years.
"Until AT LEAST 2021" I know everyone wants to point the faults out of TC but the thing is that two of the lines would have been done by now. Of course the Liberal government has a part to play allowing the flip flopping but also by giving the money out in chunks instead of a lump sum. However this is becoming increasingly frustrating especially when we see all the new lines having their own design problems as well. Essentially there is no perfect plan but can we just get to building already instead of lying to ourselves that if we study these things longer that sooner or later we will come up with a plan that has 100% consensus.

I hope "Eglinton Flats" includes Scarlet. The above list includes every other intersection along the route and it would be a real joke if they grade-separated all but 1 intersection.

It does.

And it's unlikely that all 5 will be grade separated; only the ones that would introduce significant delay.

Well I'd think that consideration would be given to the Flats for more than just 'delay'; they're low and flat, prone to flooding. Also, a seamless connection to Jane LRT (cause that is still gonna be built, right guys?!).

If Toronto now has to pay for operational costs then all the more reason to elevate the DM to Kennedy section so the trains can be run automatically.

IF city of Toronto is willing to pay for it as Onatrio has no interest in funding it. What we are hearing is: sure TO, if you want it we'll let you add the extension to our line. The rest is for you to figure out.

Unless TO pays for that too. It's a few billion dollars and would never be worth it over the 30 year span.

The statement of the mayor Mississauga on providing funding for Crosstown West:

"While we support...regionally-integrated transit...have to make sure that there is a business case to support Mississauga’s participation"

She doesn't sound enthusiastic about it. Which is fine, imo. Terminate it at Renforth. There wasn't much usage expected west of there anyways. I wouldn't want to pay for it if I were Mississauga.

Just received some info that I request some weeks ago about the Airport Transit Hub. Its an ongoing process with a number of players that going to take a number of years to get a clear sense what will happen at the end of the day.

The one question that is up in the air is the fare integration. Since the airport is in Mississauga and this line is to be an TTC operation, what fare do riders pay to get to/from the airport from/to Renforth terminal???

There is no set timetable for the Airport Transit Hub, as well who will lead the development and the funding of it at this time.

As it stands today, you have the GTAA, TTC, Mississauga, Metrolinx, developers and the Province as the main players. The GTAA is driving this process, but there are various developers pushing it as well. At the end of the day, will it benefit employees working in the area?? Quality of service will have an impact on everyone.

There is a vision to run the line over the 401, west of the 427 that will be built as an BRT as part of Mississauga Transitway with provision to be converted to LRT to the Enfield. It will travel to the Transit Hub on the south end of Terminal One. All service will go through the Renforth Terminal regardless if BRT or LRT.

The one recommendation I have made to deal with both the fare integration and moving riders is that the ROW from the Renforth Terminal to the Airport be both LRT and BRT, using the same ROW. Easy to do, but the BRT will do more wear and tear on it.

If the GTAA does not contribute to the construction north of the Renforth Gateway to Pearson Airport, they'll need to build more parking garages (plural) for workers, passengers, visitors, etc..
Parking lots are way cheaper! Just not a good solution for long term development.

The final cost of this extension won't be finalized till they figure out how many grade separations to build. Overall it's a good thing they won't take out the mid block stops so the 32 Eglinton West can be eliminated from the system for good.

I question the claim that eliminating Widdicombe, Wincott and Mulham stations would make it any more 'subway-like' than with it. How much benefit would that provide compared to the cost of running bus service on Eglinton West to serve those stops?

I'd like to keep Widdicombe at the very least, seeing as there is significant development potential surrounding it. Mulham as well is getting a half dozen dense towers in the Plant World location.

Wincott is currently the most useless stop out of the revised plan. In fact it was still the most useless stop even before they revised the plan. Widdicombe is just barely justifiable due to potential future development that may occur.

You know there is a plan to build a 10 story retirement home right there.
