Thread: Photo Of The Day

  1. Photo Of The Day

    January 12, 2008

  2. Wow... 1 Bloor East will really make an impact at this intersection.
GO TALL... OR DON'T GO UP AT ALL. BTW, twitter is for ... twits

  3. Interesting to see that a swath of parking preceded Cumberland Terrace--indeed, it would seem that the S side of Cumberland was virtually all parking from Yonge all the way t/w Avenue Rd.

Would this have related to B-D subway construction? Judging from the existence of the buildings SW corner Bay-Yorkville (now replaced by Minto) and Yonge-Belmont, this would seem like an early-mid-60s sort of photo (and is that construction/excavation E of Yonge, btw/Britnells and Royal Bank?)

  4. I imagine the parking has to be B/D subway related.

  6. I'm trying to remember when King was re-done. I'm thinking it was summer 2002.

  7. Photo is dated May 3, 2003.

  10. Wow. CN Tower, Royal Bank and First Canadian Place all rising at the same time.

  11. Fantastic photo!

Anyone know what that Pizza Pizza was before?

  12. A TD bank branch. And, in its previous incarnation, it was the TD Bank headquarters. That would have been in the 1800's.

  13. With an underground tunnel to the Gooderham Building (or so goes the legend).

Or actually, the Bank of Toronto. (Which merged with the Dominion Bank of Canada in 1954.)

  15. And a fine bank it was!!!

Built 1862 ... Lost to progress in 1960!
