As the Greater Toronto Area’s rapid build-out continues to transform the region, independent Ipsos-Reid research shows there is still a large gap in understanding between consumers and the building industry about the forces shaping the future of Toronto and its surrounding municipalities. The sheer volume of development in the region coupled with a lack of publicly-accessible information has fostered increased consumer curiosity about the development industry and surrounding issues changing the region. In reponse, a new campaign being launched today by the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) aims to address this growing public demand for information and transparency.

Known as "Building Answers," BILD's new campaign seeks to educate the public on key development issues, answer common questions, and create an environment that allows for a more informed discussion about the issues in the GTA. Ultimately, by increasing public familiarity with the issues, the industry may be seen more favourabiy.

The new consumer-focused campaign—the first of its kind—will answer the public's questions about the building industry and the role BILD and the building industry plays in the growth of GTA communities. Solicited via consumer research sourced from 1,000 residents of the 416 and 905, questions have been grouped into four categories:

• Why we build – why building the city means bettering the city

• How the costs of building contribute to the city’s economy; how the cost of homes is returned to the city

• The industry's role in making housing affordable; clarifying the difference between home development and home prices

• What, why, how and where we’re building – the kinds of buildings and spaces being developed

The Building Answers campaign launches today, April 2nd, 2019, and continuing over the course of five to six weeks to offer answers to the public on the benefits provided by the industry to the GTA and to support BILD's advocacy efforts.
