Under construction in a little pocket of density in what is otherwise North York suburban sprawl, The Bennett on Bayview from First Avenue Properties and Latch Developments has reached its final 12-storey height. The mid-rise condominium development designed by RAW is expected to introduce 167 new homes to Bayview north of Finch when construction comes to a close later this year.

The project was initially proposed in early 2015 at a height of 14 storeys, subsequently reduced to 12 storeys and approved by the Ontario Municipal Board in 2016. By the end of 2016, equipment had arrived to clear the project site, paving the way for shoring work in early 2017. Excavation and the installation of a tower crane were complete by the end of 2017, and the building has been steadily rising ever since.

The latest photos show that the 12th and final residential level has been formed, with structural work now wrapping up on the mechanical penthouse level above. Cladding installation is also progressing quickly, with a window wall system with darkly tinted opaque glass spandrel and aluminum mullions now rising as high as the sixth floor.

While most of the buildings on this stretch of Bayview turn their backs to the thoroughfare, with entrances off of side streets and private driveways, The Bennett on Bayview embraces its address with a direct frontage onto the sidewalk. Similar developments could bring new levels of walkability to this suburban area.
