We've been keeping a close eye on the side-by-side construction sites for Mattamy Homes and Biddington Group’s Vita on the Lake and Vita Two developments underway in Etobicoke's Humber Bay Shores community. Designed by Graziani + Corazza Architects, the 53-storey Vita on the Lake and its 16-storey sibling to the southeast, Vita Two, will bring approximately 660 new homes to the Lake Shore Boulevard and Park Lawn Road area beside Lake Ontario.

We last checked in on the projects towards the end of January, when forming was in full swing for the north side of the 6-storey underground garage. The garage will run below Annie Craig Drive—a local street that will be extended though the middle of the site—connecting the two buildings below grade. Forming of the first phase's share of the garage levels is now wrapping up, with crews having recently started forming of P1.

To the south, shoring work for the 16-storey Vita Two wrapped up recently, and the latest photos of the site show that GFL-branded excavators have arrived to begin extending the pit to create the south end of the garage. The start of digging has revealed tandem caisson wall and pile and lagging shoring systems in place, which will hold back the surrounding earth during the second phase of excavation.

As digging begins, demolition is progressing on a caisson wall that divided the Vita and Vita Two sites. As the wall is taken down, a soil ramp is taking shape to allow access between the two sites' differing grades.
