The Vaughan Urban Design Awards are back for the 2017 edition, recognizing and celebrating a diversity of urban design and cultural heritage projects throughout Vaughan. Entries will be judged for their contribution to Vaughan, innovation, compatibility, execution, and creativity, while focusing on these six criteria:

  • high-quality architecture and landscape architecture;
  • public realm contributions, such as public spaces, streetscape, accessibility, etc;
  • the preservation of heritage architecture and cultural landscapes;
  • design that promotes the use of multi-modal transportation such as walking, cycling, and transit;
  • environmental sustainability; and
  • design for community wellness, social equity and universal accessibility.

Entries will be judged by a panel of five members that includes four panelists from relevant professional disciplines—two architects, an urban designer/planner, a landscape architect—and a member from the City of Vaughan, the Deputy City Manager, Planning and Growth Management. Awards will be given in two classes: Award of Excellence and Award of Merit, and are set to be handed out at the Awards Gala at Vaughan City Hall on November 15th, 2017.
