Nearly a year into construction of its tower on the border of Toronto's Financial District and St. Lawrence neighbourhoods, Concert Properties' 88 Scott, the Page + Steele / IBI Group Architects-designed condominium development, is now just over three quarters of the way to its final, 58-storey height. With construction now reaching approximately 46 storeys above street level, its place in the downtown skyline is becoming clear.
Since the last update in June, the development's precast concrete has continued to rise up the structure. Judging by the architects' renderings, a further ten storeys of are still to be added the building's west facade, which is shown below. The remaining floors will be clad in glass, providing a staggered contrast with the precast concrete cladding and recreated heritage limestone-clad podium.
The installation of these glazing walls will potentially change 88 Scott's relationship with the Financial District as its upper levels will more closely match most new condominium developments in Toronto. At present, however, the precast concrete cladding rising halfway up its elevation echoes the more solid exteriors many of the surrounding financial core buildings.
At street level, work is nearly complete on the podium, which extends the details of the heritage Royal and Sun Alliance building around the corner of Wellington and Scott streets. In July, Concert Properties sought planning permission for illuminated signs on the fifth storey of the podium's south and east facades.
