While the Downtown Burlington skyline is a dominant focal point for the Halton Region city's continuing growth, a new urban character is also taking shape north of the QEW. Along the Appleby Line, a cluster of high and mid-rise buildings are adding significant density to the corridor, which—despite the persistence of suburban typologies—is gradually becoming a more vibrant environment.
At the northeast corner of Appleby Line and Corporate Drive, LJM's Appleby Gardens is shaping up as the latest addition to the neighbourhood, with the 7-storey mid-rise now moving towards the latter stages of construction.
Structurally completed late last year, the warm orange cladding has now been mostly installed, with the Icon Architects-designed building promising to become a visual focal point in the area.
Although the development is largely surrounded by subdivisions to the east and west, Appleby Gardens also contributes to a nascent collection of (more urban) towers and mid-rises to the north. Up the street, Ironstone Condominiums—another LJM project—has already added 225 units to the area, while the developer's adjoining Uptown Centre shopping plaza has introduced pedestrian-friendly elements to a suburban strip mall typology.
For its part, Appleby will contribute 71 residential units to the neighbourhood, with occupancy slated for this year. Over the coming months, the closing stages of construction will reveal the 7-storey building's finished exterior, with weatherproofing membranes set to be removed as cladding installation is completed.
Appleby Gardens will feature a unit mix consisting of one-bedroom, one-bedroom + den, and two-bedroom suites. For residents, communal amenities will include a fitness centre, party room, alongside a concierge service.
