Metrolinx is looking for contractors to design and build infrastructure for improved GO service on the Stouffville rail corridor, Ontario has announced.

The projects include the following changes and improvements to Miliken, Agincourt and Unionville stations:

  • Milliken: new and relocated platforms with canopy enclosure, tunnels, elevators, Steeles Avenue pedestrian connection, Steeles Avenue crossing improvements, and customer amenities
  • Agincourt: new second track, new and relocated platforms with canopy enclosure, tunnels, elevators, customer waiting areas, building relocation, and customer amenities
  • Unionville: new second track and turning track, new and relocated platforms with canopy enclosure, tunnels, elevators, parking expansion, and customer amenities

Qualifying organizations will be asked to respond to a request for proposals later this summer. At present the Stouffville line runs weekdays, seven trains into Toronto in the mornings and eight out in the evenings, but as part of the Go Regional Express Rail programme, more frequent service has been promised, alongside the electrification of the line.

It is hard to be definitive about future levels of service, however, since the maps above were produced before more recent SmartTrack announcements - they do not show the four entirely new SmartTrack stations at Finch, Lawrence, Gerrard and "East Harbour" (serving First Gulf's massive Unilever redevelopment site).
