Following the fall 2015 demolition of the Dowling Avenue bridge over the Metrolinx rail corridor, the City of Toronto has completed the demolition of the second half of the aging two-part bridge, this one spanning the Gardiner Expressway. The demolition was planned to coincide with the Gardiner Expressway's annual spring maintenance, allowing heavy equipment to operate unimpeded during the closure.

The City of Toronto has released a timelapse video illustrating the process of the bridge's demolition, starting with the still-standing bridge and finishing with the removal of debris from the closed expressway.

The project's next phase, beginning this month, involves the installation of a temporary bridge spanning the Gardiner. This bridge is expected to be installed during the early morning hours of June 5th, when the Gardiner Expressway will once again be closed for the Ride for Heart event. It will open in July to pedestrians and cyclists.

The Dunn Avenue bridge was also recently demolished a short distance to the east, with its temporary span currently open to vehicles. Options for permanent new bridges on both streets are being studied while an environmental assessment is being undertaken.
