ELAD Canada's Emerald City community at Don Mills and Sheppard continues to grow, with construction now in full swing at the site of three new buildings to the immediate south of the community's three existing towers. Designed by WZMH Architects, the three new phases will occupy a full city block bounded by Don Mills Road to the west, George Henry Boulevard to the north, Forest Manor Road to the east, and the recently named Helen Lu Road to the south.
The three developments occupying the site will all rise atop a shared below-grade parking structure, with first phase Colours of Emerald City situated at the west end of the site fronting Don Mills, second phase Fifth on the Park at the southeast side of the site fronting Helen Lu Road and Forest Manor Road, and a future yet-to-be-named third phase occupying the northeast corner of the site at Forest Manor Road and George Henry Blvd.
The 13-storey Colours of Emerald City is currently the furthest along, with all the below-grade structure formed and the first columns in place for the building's first floor, including the lower lobby level. On the below-grade levels, mechanical work has commenced underneath the concrete floors. Work on finishes for Colours of Emerald City's portion of the shared below-grade parking structure is expected to begin imminently.
At the southeast corner of the site, foundation work is well underway for Fifth on the Park. Both this phase and the future phase three's portion of below-grade grade structure will be constructed simultaneously, allowing all below-grade work to be completed well in advance of phase three's construction at the northeast corner of the site. Fifth on the Park is expected to reach grade before the end of the year.
As construction presses on for the new phases of residential, work is also in progress at the nearby site of the Parkway Forest Community Centre's Diamond Schmitt Architects-designed second phase. The new phase will soon add an outdoor pool and pavilion with change rooms to the existing facility.
The second phase also includes basketball courts, which were recently completed and are already seeing use by the community.
While all of this is going on, phase three is getting closer, with a pre-launch planned for this summer, when we should learn all of its details.
