The side-by-side construction sites of Lago at the Waterfront and Riva del Lago are now both approaching their final heights in Etobicoke's Humber Bay Shores area. Developed by Mattamy Homes and the Biddington Group, the two Graziani + Corazza Architects-designed condominium developments will soon top off at respective heights of 49 and 14 storeys. Together, the two developments will bring over 800 new homes to this rapidly expanding community on Toronto's western waterfront.
At the time of our last update in February, Lago had reached a height of 45 storeys, while crews were in the process of forming the 9th level of neighbouring Riva del Lago. In the weeks since, Lago at the Waterfront has risen to a height of 48 storeys, leaving just one residential level and the mechanical penthouse above before the building officially tops off. Now taller than the neighbouring high-rises of the Humber Bay Shores community, Lago at the Waterfront will be the tallest structure on that area's skyline until it is surpassed in height by Eau du Soleil in 2017.
The building's main design feature, taking the form of shifted alternating four-level volumes of black and white, has become much more prominent as the installation of black and white slab-edges, underpainting, and dark-tinted and clear balcony glazing progresses up the height of the tower.
Next door, Riva del Lago has risen to a height of 12 storeys. Only two more residential levels are left to pour before work moves on to this development's mechanical penthouse level. The structure is still awaiting the first panels of cladding, though we expect to see similar finishes on Riva del Lago to its sibling and next-door neighbour Lago at the Waterfront.
