On the western edge of Toronto's tony Rosedale, a former Yonge Street car wash location is in the process of being replaced with a new commercial building. Developer Urbacon's 1128 Yonge will rise five storeys on the northwest corner of Yonge and Macpherson, featuring a design by Hermitage Architects and Lemay.

Shoring work for the project got underway back in late-2015, followed by the start of excavation for the development's single below-grade level, which will be 12-space parking garage. Most recently, a tower crane was raised over the site, allowing construction work to proceed.

The building will add 20,000 square feet of office space on floors two through five to a primarily fine-grained commercial retail stretch of Yonge. Life on the sidewalk here will enriched with the addition of 4,525 square feet of ground floor retail space, divisible into as many as four units.

1128 Yonge will employ efficiency features like a green roof and energy efficient appliances to achieve LEED certification. Once completed, the structure will put its tenants within walking distance from Summerhill and Rosedale stations on the TTC's Line 1, allowing for a car-less commute. The inclusion of tenant and visitor bicycle parking aims to further offset the building's carbon footprint.
