With Oscar night behind us, our focus returns to the Heritage Toronto Awards, with nominations now open for this year's ceremony. Until May 13th, projects can be nominated for this Fall's ceremony, which will honour achievements in five categories. Heritage Toronto's 42nd annual show will honour city-builders across Toronto, raising awareness for the diverse range of groups and individuals that imbue their work with a passion for civic heritage.

The Heritage Toronto Awards recognize exceptional achievement in new books, short publications, media, architecture and craftsmanship, and volunteer-based community heritage efforts. Each year, the ceremony concludes with the Kilbourn Lecture, in which a prominent city-builder shares their committed passion to enriching the urban realm.

An interdisciplinary event, the Awards celebrate a broad spectrum of achievement that extends beyond gestures to the past. While works of historical preservation are celebrated for returning Toronto's lost histories to prominence, the Awards also recognize projects that increase awareness of contemporary issues and propel new energy into social and environmental causes.

Lat year's event saw a wealth of projects receive awards of excellence and merit, with subjects ranging from environmental stewardship to racial inequality, LGBTQ activism, and archival preservation. In the William Greer Architectural Conservation and Craftsmanship category, the Little Trinity Church Annex (below) and HNR Properties' restored bronze doorway at the Hermant Building took home awards of excellence for architectural preservation.
