In the last few years, fast-paced urban development has continued to transform Toronto's Sheppard Avenue East into an increasingly dense and urban environment. From North York to Scarborough, a large number of recent and ongoing projects are bringing a new urban presence to one of the city's major streets, which could be set for a further boost with the arrival of the Sheppard LRT in the future. Opearl's Sail Condos, located just east of Victoria Park Avenue, is now set to contribute to the urbanizing trend, with the distinctively-shaped tower now launched.

Designed by Toronto-based Keith Loffler McAlpine Architects, the 18-storey tower's conspicuously curved southern facade is likely to prove a quickly recognizable presence in the area. Meant to evoke an image of a ship's sail—for which the project is named—the consciously shaped condo will bring residential 180 suites to Scarborough's west end.

With suites ranging in size from 353 to 1,412 square feet—including a number of family-friendly three-bedroom units—the project caters to a fairly diverse range of residents, while the new density is likely to inject some vibrancy to the area. Furthermore, the configuration of Sail's gym amenity space at ground level could help foster a sense of connection between residents and the neighbourhood around them.

Looking out at the street, the placement of the gym creates a direct contextual link between residents and the surrounding area. Seen below, the podium's interior courtyard, meanwhile, provides a more private, intimate retreat for residents and guests.

Residents will also have access to a spaciously configured, multi-purpose party room which looks out directly onto the courtyard (below). Sail's amenities—which, along with suite interiors, will be appointed by Gordana Car Design—will be concentrated at the ground level of the tower's podium, which will be topped by a green roof (seen in the aerial rendering below).

Sail will be hosting a pre-Boxing Day sales event on December 12th, to be held at the project's on-site sales centre at 2933 Sheppard Avenue East between 12 and 4 PM.
