Devised as a way to engage Toronto residents and business owners about the City's ambitious emissions reduction targets, the ongoing TalkTransformation! event series is set to continue next week with a November 26th conversation on reducing transportation emissions, currently the number one source of greenhouse gas emissions in the city.

The talk is being held as part of the TransformTO initiative, which aims to create a plan to address our city's greenhouse gas emissions with a 30% reduction by 2020, and an 80% reduction by 2050, adding to the existing 25% reduction from 1990 levels.

The event, moderated by Metro Toronto's urban affairs expert Matt Elliott, will feature a number of speakers. Marianne Hatzopoulou, of the University of Toronto's Transportation Engineering Research Group, will discuss the established relationships between transportation, greenhouse gas emissions and health. Adam Arnold of UrbanTrans North America will speak about demand management strategies for transportation. Hilary Holden of the Toronto's Planning Department will cover transit planning and sustainable transportation promotion, while Ashley Curtis of the Toronto's Transportation Services will discuss the City's transportation infrastructure planning and management.

Councillor Gord Perks (Ward 14 Parkdale-High Park), Chair of the City's Subcommittee on Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation, stated "Toronto and other cities the world over are taking action to cut greenhouse gas emissions to address climate change. As we look to become one of the most sustainable cities in the world, and to improve our health, prosperity and equity at the same time, I encourage everyone to get involved."

Members of the public are encouraged to attend this free event, which will take place on Thursday evening in the Scarborough Civic Centre's council chamber. Interactive activities will begin at 6:30 PM, followed by a panel discussion from 7 to 8:30 PM.
