Among the many infrastructure and flood control projects envisioned during the aftermath of Hurricane Hazel in 1954, the channelization of Black Creek was undertaken to improve flood control in northwestern Toronto. In today's Photo of the Day, which was submitted to the UrbanToronto Flickr Pool by Francisco Silva, the stark concrete-lined channel stands in contrast to the lush Lambton Golf and Country club, both man-made reinterpretations of nature.
