As construction steadily progresses on a 210,000 square foot, $550 million expansion of Cadillac Fairview's Sherway Gardens, new retailers continue to be announced as the new space begins to come together. A number of well-known international retailers have already been announced as new tenants for the spaces, with many new stores set to become among the first—and, in some cases, the very firstof their kind in Canada.

Complementing the recently remodelled Hudson's Bay store and scheduled to open in stages over the next two years, the mall is set to welcome Saks Fifth Avenue (2016) and Nordstrom (2017) as new anchor tenants, representing early forays into the Canadian market for the well-known American retailers. Expanded Harry Rosen and Sporting Life flagship locations will also migrate from the existing mall into the north expansion (below), while dining offerings will be significantly expanded with four new full-service restaurants and a relocated 'Gourmet Fare' food court.

Significant activity is visible on the construction site as the expansion's first fall openings approach. On the exterior, work is progressing at different stages, with insulation, electrical wiring, and glazing already being installed in some sections, while the skeletons of other parts of the project are only now beginning to rise. Seen below, the northern side of the expansion is already significantly completed.

Inside meanwhile, the mall remains open while hoardings seal off the forthcoming additions (below). Recently, as reported by Retail Insider, the Swiss jeweller and watchmaker Chopard announced that Sherway Gardens will be the first Canadian location for the luxury brand, opening in late September of this year. The 400 square foot Chopard boutique will be adjacent to the multi-brand jewelery retailer l'Oro's 2,500 sqaure foot flagship location. Together with Canada's second free-standing De Beers diamond boutique, these new retailers are set to create one of the premier jewellery destinations in the city.

Some of the new retail space is being opened up by a renovation of the former Sears store, mostly set to become Saks Fifth Avenue (below). In addition to the expanded retail space, new parking decks are being built to accommodate an expected increase in vehicle traffic as the mall looks set become a bigger draw for shoppers throughout the GTA.

Besides the early Canadian locations of the aforementioned brands, several others are arriving in the 45-store expansion, including upscale Toronto-based womenswear retailer Andrews, Samsung, LUSH, Tory Burch, Ted Baker, as well as restaurant chains Joey, P.F. Chang's, and The Keg (below).
