The two towers of Royal Bank Plaza are far from the tallest in Toronto's Financial District, though their unique design by WZMH Architects makes the complex one of the most photographed in our Downtown Core. The 26- and 41-storey office towers, located at the intersection of Bay and Front, were completed between 1976 and 1979. The buildings' eye-catching gold hue was achieved through the use of around 2,500 ounces of gold in the windows, with the value of each pane estimated to be around $70 at the time of construction - a value that has since skyrocketed due to both inflation and the rising price of gold. Today's Photo of the Day, which was submitted to the UrbanToronto Flickr Pool by Paul Hillier, shows the east facade of Royal Bank Plaza's east tower rising into a foggy sky.
