The Best Western Primrose Hotel, located at 111 Carlton Street since its debut in 1970, will soon breathe new life in its reincarnated form as the soon-to-open, Parkside Student Residences. Currently undergoing a $25 million renovation by Knightstone Capital Management, with a design by Diamond Schmitt Architects, the new student residences promises to "re-define downtown Toronto student housing."
The new Parkside Student Residences will seek to offer its residents with a standard of living over and above that of the typical student lifestyle. A host of state-of-the art study spaces and other amenities will feature prominently within the new design of the building. Among those at the top of the list, the Parkside will offer an all-day, unlimited dining program, 24-hour fitness centre with private yoga space, free WiFi throughout the building, and a mix of public-and-private, social, entertainment, and study spaces. 24-hour concierge services will be complimented with available underground parking, along with an on-site bicycle repair station and ample bike parking.
Sociability, paired with an active, engaged, student life, will be the cornerstone of the Parkside Student Residences, the dining hall, rooftop patio, and spacious lobby, all intended as additional spaces to meet new friends, catch up on work, and relax.
Inside the units, residents will be housed in modern, comfortable, living spaces, complete with bedrooms, private bathrooms, and an open concept, live-work space all of their own. These are not the dreary, concrete dorms of yesteryear.
Located within easy walking distance of Ryerson, the U of T and OCAD U are a longer walk, but the Carlton streetcar is outside the front door and it's a short ride to the College Subway station. The location also gives the residents quick access to all the city has to offer, being close to the Eaton Centre, Loblaws at Maple Leaf Gardens, Yorkville, and the Church-Wellesley corridor.
Knightstone will offer single and double-occupancy suites, all fully-furnished, and made comfortable with in-suite heating and air conditioning controls, beginning at $695/month plus meals. Parkside Student Residences is one of several new buildings that are adding many hundreds of new units to the city's current stock of student accommodations over the next few years.
