Last week, we took you inside the presentation centre for Ghods Builders' new 5959 Yonge Street Condos development, which will rise on the east side of Yonge Street north of Cummer Avenue in North York. Sales have already begun for the first phase of the development, which consists of 31 and 43-storey Kirkor Architects Planners-designed towers joined by a shared podium. Units at 5959 Yonge are available in sizes ranging from 510 square feet to 750 square feet, starting at $288,900, and to help give potential purchasers an idea of the design possibilities for these units, the presentation centre features a full-sized model suite, plus a kitchen vignette.

The model suite at 5959 Yonge's presentation centre was appointed by DesignTheory in cooperation with Ghods' in-house design team. The suite is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom model, showing off a penthouse unit floorplan of approximately 1,100 square-feet, one of the 32 different standard layouts being offered in the development.

Long hallways, protruding walls, columns, and bulkheads can take away from a unit’s total square footage without offering much in the way of functional space. Floorplans at 5959 Yonge Street have been carefully designed by Ghods’ in-house team and Kirkor Architects to maximize usable space for residents, and it shows in the model suite's lack of "dead space".

The penthouse suites offer 9-foot ceiling heights, providing loftier spaces than the 8-foot heights found on lower floors of the towers. The model suite's kitchen features quartz countertops, six piece integrated European-style appliances, plus a unique adjustable faucet. Here in the kitchen, making the best use of space translated into the integration of appliances into the cabinetry.

The suite's living room shows off large floor-to-ceiling windows that will let ample natural light in to the main living area.

The master bedroom features finishes like a tufted headboard and mirrored night tables, creating a space that would fit right in at a luxury hotel.

The adjacent master bathroom features a floating vanity with his and hers sinks and LED lighting underneath which can cycle through many colours.

The model suite's second bedroom takes a more subdued approach, showing off the space's features like baseboard moulding and laminate hardwood flooring.

There is a still more to see at the 5959 Yonge Street presentation centre, and we will return in the coming weeks to examine the development's scale model.
