In addition to the construction of a new train shed and large retail concourse below ground, the ongoing revitalization of Union Station has also beautifully restored the aging finishes of our grand train station, inside and out. Inside the historic train station, a large ticket lobby, referred to informally as the Great Hall, stretches 76 metres from end to end, with a ceiling height of 27 metres. The large vaulted ceiling is finished in coffered Guastavino tiles, while the walls are finished in Zumbo stone and the floors in Tennessee marble. In today's Photo of the Day, which was submitted to the UrbanToronto Flickr Pool by Jimmy Wu, we are presented with a dramatic wide-angle view of the Great Hall, processed in monochrome.
