Preliminary plans have emerged for the redevelopment for the former Inn on the Park hotel site on Leslie Street north of Eglinton Avenue. We can now confirm the involvement of developer Tridel and get our first look at the proposed four tower mixed-use complex, with an alternately crimped and flaring modern design by Graziani + Corazza Architects.
The proposed development, which it appears will be marketed as On The Park, would feature four high-rise residential towers, ranging in height between 28 and 39 storeys and containing 1,380 residential units, while 20 three-storey townhouses and 943 square metres of commercial retail space would engage ground level at the site.
The site plan shows how these towers will be positioned within the large 2.07 hectare site, and one can see the existing adjacent Carrington on the Park Condominiums to the north in light gray, while a car low-rise dealership is indicated by the light gray to the south. The 34 and 39-storey towers will be located at south-centre and southeast of the site respectively, with a 28-storey tower to the west and a 29-storey tower to the northeast. The diagram also shows the location of the two blocks of townhomes, a new public road which will serve the site, as well as a newly signalized intersection at Leslie Street that will handle the increase in traffic expected. A stop on the new Crosstown LRT is being built within walking distance of the site at the corner of Leslie and Eglinton.
Of course the site plan also highlights the interesting geometry of the tower footprints. Inspired by the hexagonal hotel tower currently being demolished to make way for the new development, none of the towers in the On The Park development will be four-sided boxes. All four feature a complex yet unique polygonal shape, making each tower a variation on a theme. Elevation diagrams included with the application give other perspectives on the proposed shapes.
The development is still in its preliminary stages, and we will learn more about Tridel's On The Park as the year progresses.
