The CN Tower no longer holds the title for tallest structure in the world after being surpassed in height by the Burj Khalifa in 2010, and the Abraj Al Bait Towers and Tokyo Skytree in 2011, but at 553 meters, the tower is still the tallest freestanding structure in the western hemisphere. There is one lesser known structure in the western hemisphere that exceeds the CN Tower's height. At almost 629 meters, the KVLY-TV mast in Blanchard, North Dakota is over 70 meters taller than the CN Tower, though the guy-wired communications tower is not classified as a freestanding structure. In today's Photo of the Day, which was submitted to the UrbanToronto Flickr Pool by Vik Pahwa, we are given an up close view of the CN Tower as seen at sunset.
